Manchester United have made a €30 million (£25.9m) opening offer for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

Having seen Thiago elect to join up with former boss Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich rather than move to Old Trafford, United have turned their attentions to the former Arsenal man.

After lodging the offer on Monday, United must now wait for Barcelona to make their stance regarding the midfielder known.

Fabregas often struggled to break in to the Barca line-up last season and was occasionally booed by his own supporters when he performed poorly.

The Gunners have been keeping tabs on Fabregas - who left the Emirates Stadium for Camp Nou in 2011, throughout the summer - and have a €29m buy-back clause in place.

Arsene Wenger is keen to bolster his squad this summer and has been in contact with his former midfielder about his current situation in Catalunya.

Despite United's confidence that their £6.2m salary offer would be enough to tempt Thiago, the 22-year-old will complete a move to Bayern Munich this week.

Del Nido: Negredo has a one per cent chance of joining Manchester City

The 27-year-old seemed close to completing a switch to the Premier League side but disagreements over the transfer fee look set to scupper the deal

Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido has stated that Alvaro Negredo's chance of making the switch to Manchester City this summer is as low as one per cent, as the clubs continue to struggle to compromise over a fee.

The striker, who marked 25 goals in 36 La Liga appearances last season, has sparked the interest of Manchester City and Atletico Madrid in recent weeks, leading coach Unai Emery to concede that selling the Spain international would be the best option.

However, it now looks as though Negredo will spend at least another season at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan after Del Nido admitted that City had failed to match their valuation of the player, believed to be at around €23 million.

"We are far from reaching a deal with City," the 56-year-old told reporters.

"Right now they are further away than where we were at [in negotiations] with Atletico Madrid. There have been advances, but we are still far from a deal.

"Sevilla have valued the player at a certain amount and that will vary depending on if it's a fixed sum or with variables. Either they pay what we ask, or the player stays with Sevilla for another three years.

"The chance that he goes right now is one per cent. In the last 15 days I have lowered the price by €0, I'm very generous.

"The substitute for Negredo is Negredo. For me the best thing is that he renews his deal for another two years and raises his clause."

It emerged last week that City had been given the green light to launch a firm bid for Negredo after Sevilla captured Carlos Bacca from Club Brugge, with Manuel Pellegrini prepared to double his current salary to €87,000 per week at the Etihad Stadium.

Meanwhile, Del Nido revealed that Jose Campana is set to join Crystal Palace for €2m after the 20-year-old rejected the chance to stay in Andalusia.

"We made him an offer and he didn't accept," Del Nido told his club's official website. "He wanted to go. We accepted that his agent might put him on the market and he has reached a deal with Crystal Palace for €2m, plus bonuses and a percentage of a future transfer.

"The logical thing is that he signs [Monday] and [on Tuesday] he travels to the United Kingdom to do the medical."

Manchester City have agreed a €27 million plus add-ons deal with Fiorentina for attacker Stevan Jovetic.

The 23-year-old's agent, Fali Ramadani, is set to travel to Manchester to meet with City sporting director Txiki Begiristain in the next 24 hours, with club officials confident of completing the move following those talks.

City have agreed to a package that meets Fiorentina's €30m (£26m) asking price, with €27m (£23.3m) set to be paid up front and a further €3m (£2.6m) to be paid in performance-related bonuses.

Jovetic visited the Fanfani Medical Centre in Florence for tests on Monday, accompanied by the Serie A side's doctor, Jacopo Giuliattini.

City, who have sent a large group of staff to South Africa as part of their pre-season tour, also conducted similar assessments on Jesus Navas in Seville before his €21m move to the Etihad Stadium in June.

Jovetic was later followed by Mario Gomez, who is set to complete his transfer from Bayern Munich to the Florence outfit imminently.

Ramadani met with Begiristain at Mottram Hall last week to discuss terms, with City set to pay Jovetic an £80,000-a-week salary package on arrival in Manchester.

The clubs have maintained a good relationship harboured following Stefan Savic's move from Manchester to Fiorentina last summer.

City are set for disappointment with regards to Alvaro Negredo, however, whom they had hoped to secure in a double swoop alongisde Jovetic. The Sevilla attacker is rated as having a "one per cent" chance of joining Manuel Pellegrini's side by the Spanish club's president, Jose Maria del Nido.

Arsenal are preparing a €40.7 million offer for wantaway Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.

The Gunners will make a concerted push to sign the Uruguay international after contacting the Merseyside club last week about his availability.

There were reports on Monday that Arsenal had made a €34.9m bid for Suarez but the the north London outfit are ready to pay up to €40.7m for the Reds attacker.

It is understood that Arsene Wenger has switched his main focus to capturing Suarez because Arsenal are still struggling to agree a fee with Real Madrid for Gonzalo Higuain.

The Gunners do not anticipate making any signings before they depart for their pre-season tour of Asia on Thursday, but they are actively trying recruit a marquee striker.

Suarez is regarded by Wenger as an upgrade on Higuain, who came close to joining Arsenal at the end of last week after they made an improved offer of €26.9m.

However, Madrid are holding out for €29.7m for the Argentine, and, although Arsenal's interest in Higuain is still alive and a deal has not been ruled out, Wenger has decided to explore other elite options.

With the biggest transfer kitty in Arsenal's history available to him this summer, the Frenchman sanctioned the shock move for Suarez last week.

The Gunners' enquiry was met with a 'hands-off' warning by Liverpool, who are fighting to hold on to a player who has spoken frequently this summer of his interest in a move, most specifically to Real Madrid.

Arsenal will now make a concerted push for Suarez after learning from the Uruguayan's camp that he is interested in a move to the Emirates as he pursues his ambition of playing Champions League football next season.

In an interview given to the Uruguayan radio station Sport 890 on Tuesday, Suarez claimed that "two or three clubs" want to sign him and that he values interest from Arsenal.

He laughed off reported interest from Chelsea but admitted he is prepared to interrupt a holiday in his native Uruguay should a potential transfer develop.

"Are there any concrete options? No, so far there hasn't been any. There are two or three clubs who I think are willing and the club knows that.

"I have to present myself on the July 21 with Liverpool for their tour of Australia but no one knows what could happen. I've already said what I have to say, and initially I have to be there on July 21 but maybe a phone call one day can change all your plans.

"For now everything is going well. I am very calm but initially I am meant to present myself on July 21 but, like I said, no one knows what can happen."

There is understood to be a clause in Suarez’s contract that allows him to ask for permission to speak to other clubs if they make a €46.5m offer. However, Liverpool are believed to want €58m for their prize asset.

Intriguingly, Suarez’s stance on wishing to leave England has appeared to have softened in the wake of the interest from Arsenal and the absence of an official move from Madrid.

"I have to value that; despite everything that's happened, [English] clubs still value players for what they can do on the field," he said.

"That makes me think that I can come back and do well over there. It's good that the English clubs still want me."

Wenger plans to use a warchest of up to €116m to make at least two marquee signings this summer, most likely in the striker and central midfield positions.

Guardiola: I want Thiago at Bayern

Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola has admitted he has asked sporting director Matthias Sammer and chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge to sign Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

The Spain international initially seemed destined to move to Manchester United, but a number of recent reports suggest Bayern are now leading the race to sign the 22-year-old.

Guardiola has now confirmed die Roten are keen to lure the playmaker to the Allianz Arena, although he was unable to give any clarity on the status of the Bavarians' interest.

"I have asked [Matthias] Sammer and [Karl-Heinz] Rummenigge to sign Thiago," Guardiola said at a press conference.

"I don't know what will happen in the future, but I would like to work with him at Bayern.

"I would like to sign Thiago because he is from Barcelona and I know him really well. I worked with him at Barcelona B as well and he is a really good player.

"[He] is the only player I want, that's what I told them. It'll be him or no one.

"We have many players but we the need the special [quality] that Thiago brings.

"The club will decide. I told them my opinion.

"I don't think [adding another midfielder] will be a problem. I spoke to club about my concept and told them why I want Thiago.

“Nobody will leave Barcelona, unless they feel they won't play much. He wants to play. That's why I proposed him to the club.”

The midfielder has a contract with the Catalan giants until the summer of 2015, but the failure to participate for a stipulated amount of minutes in 2012-13 has seen his exit clause plummet from €90 million to an attractive €18m.

However, his minimum fee release clause returns to €90m on August 1.

Chelsea 'agree fee' for Edinson Cavani

According to Radio Marte, the official radio station of Napoli, Chelsea have come to an agreement on a fee for Edinson Cavani.
A reported fee of £49.3m has been agreed, while the Uruguayan striker will receive a potential €8.5m-a-year salary.
Previous reports suggested that Napoli were holding out for his €63m release clause; however, Chelsea seemed to have made a compromise.
Furthermore, Cavani will possess complete ownership of his image rights.
This fee would make Cavani the second most expensive signing in Premier League history, just behind Fernando Torres, who Chelsea payed £50m for back in January 2011.
This big-name signing will seek to solve Chelsea's lack of presence upfront, having persisted with Torres, who still hasn't quite lived up to the expectations that his transfer fee bought.
However, Chelsea will also have young talent Romelu Lukaku to compete for their starting eleven next season.
New manager Jose Mourinho has certainly made a huge statement of intent with the excepted signing of Cavani - and this may be the beginning of a very eventful summer for the Blues.

Real Madrid boss not ready to talk about Suarez

Carlo Ancelotti refused to be drawn on speculation linking Real Madrid with Liverpool striker Luis Suarez during his first conference since leaving Paris Saint-Germain for the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Italian was finally announced as the new Madrid manager on Tuesday, almost a month after Jose Mourinho presided over his last game with the club before leaving for Chelsea.
Real Madrid were reported to be pursuing Suarez weeks before the appointment of Ancelotti, following the Uruguayan's declaration that he intends to leave Liverpool before the close of the transfer window.
Most recent reports in the Spanish press claim the 26-year-old has already agreed terms with Real Madrid, although Los Blancos have yet to approach Liverpool with a formal proposal.
Ancelotti, however, was not willing to respond to suggestions Real Madrid are closing in on a deal for the Liverpool star, and says he will review potential transfer targets over the coming few days.
"We haven't spoken yet about new signings, because it's my first day here," Ancelotti told reporters.
"Today I can not say who goes or who stays. There is no time. In the coming days we will know."

Bale will not leave Tottenham this summer, says Villas-Boas

Andre Villas-Boas insists that Gareth Bale will not leave Tottenham this summer, despite strong interest from Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants have made no secret of their admiration for the Welshman, with president Florentino Perez recently suggesting they would make a bid once a new manager was in place at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, Villas-Boas has revealed that chairman Daniel Levy has given his word that the 23-year-old will still be at White Hart Lane next season.

"We have the pledge of the chairman that Bale is not going to leave the club," the boss told Spanish newspaper Marca.
Bale's 26 goals in all competitions were not enough to secure a place in next season's Champions League, increasing speculation that he would be seeking a move away.
Tottenham are trying to tie the player down to a lucrative new £130,000 a week contract and have promised to allow him to leave next summer should the club once again fail to finish in the top four in 2012-13.

Petr Cech: Has urged Chelsea to respond after Europa League defeat

Petr Cech has urged Chelsea to forget their Europa League disappointment and focus on defending the FA Cup against Manchester United on Sunday.

Chelsea have work to do if they are going to reach the Europa League quarter-finals after suffering a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Steaua Bucharest in Romania.

But goalkeeper Cech insists his team-mates cannot afford to dwell on this display as the cup holders face a stern test against United in their quarter-final clash at Old Trafford this weekend.

"It's the best way to forget about this defeat," he told Chelsea TV.

"The games are coming thick and fast. We won't have much time to prepare, but we'll get a little bit of rest and hopefully we'll have a good performance on Sunday.

"They are the favourites for the game, but it's the FA Cup and in the FA Cup not every time do the favourites win.

"We're still the holders, so we'll try to keep our trophy as long as we can."

Defender Branislav Ivanovic is wary of a backlash from United who will be keen to get their season back on track after the disappointing UEFA Champions League defeat by Real Madrid in midweek.

"It is going to be one of our biggest challenges of the season, especially playing them at this moment," he said.

"When you go out of the biggest competition in that way, it must be disappointing but they will be more motivated because of that."

Realistic

United's sizeable lead over the rest of the Premier League - they are 12 points clear of second-placed Manchester City - and Chelsea in particular is indicative of a poor season at Stamford Bridge, Ivanovic says.

The Serbian said: "We have to be realistic with our situation and be honest. The gap means we didn't do well in the season."

Chelsea began the season in contention for seven trophies - the Europa League has since replaced the Champions League - but unless Benitez's side beat United or overturn the deficit against Steaua, their hopes for silverware will be over for this season.

A trophy would be an unexpected bonus, with qualification for the 2013/14 Champions League the over-riding concern.

"One thing is more important than any other, to play every game as a final, as a team, to try to win every game," Ivanovic added. "The supporters didn't expect us to be in this situation this year.

"This is a game for us to show character and a game to react after this one [in Bucharest]. It is going to be very difficult, like always."

Cech remains optimistic Chelsea will be in the draw for the last eight of the Europa League on March 15 by overcoming Steaua in the second leg at Stamford Bridge.

His confidence stems from moments such as the Napoli tie last season, when the Blues overturned a 3-1 deficit in a key part of the extraordinary run to Champions League glory.

"It's disappointing to have lost 1-0," the Czech Republic goalkeeper added. "Overall we had more chances, better chances, more shots. The only moment they really were dangerous was when they had the penalty and they converted it.

"In the past we've turned a much bigger deficit than 1-0. I think 1-0 is nothing dramatic, you just need to make sure you score goals, you don't concede. We will be at home. It will be a different story."

Manchester City striker Tevez arrested on suspicion of driving offense

The Argentine could be set for further punishment from authorities after being banned from driving in January.

Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has reportedly been arrested on suspicion of driving while disqualified.

The 29-year-old Tevez, who was banned from driving in January, was taken to Macclesfield police station on Thursday evening and has since been released on bail. Tevez faces a possible prison sentence if charged and found guilty of the offense.

A statement from Cheshire police said: "At 5:13 p.m. on Thursday 7 March police arrested a 29-year-old man from Alderley Edge on the A538 in Macclesfield on suspicion of driving while disqualified. He has since been released on police bail."

The Argentine was banned from driving for six months after pleading guilty to failing to supply police with requested information. He was also fined a total of £1,540 after the court heard he did not answer letters from Lancashire and Cheshire constabularies asking for information on who was driving his car when it was caught speeding.

When Pep Guardiola arrives in June he will almost certainly want to bring in some new players, meaning Gomez may well be shown the exit door.

Another striker with an incredible strike rate, Higuain seems to be undervalued by manager Jose Mourinho.

But when on the pitch, Higuain almost always delivers and is currently sitting on 99 La Liga goals in just 178 appearances.

At only 25 and with a plethora of talent at Madrid's disposal, Higuain might be ready to ply his trade where he will be the number one striker.

Stephan El Shaarawy | AC Milan

El Shaarawy has had a fantastic season for the Italian giants, despite their early troubles in Serie A.  

He is currently the second leading goalscorer in the league with 15 strikes and at just 20 years of age, the Italian international could be a long-term replacement for Torres. 

The recent acquisition of Mario Balotelli and Milan’s continued financial problems could mean that they may be ready to listen to offers for their most prized asset.

Romelu Lukaku | Chelsea (on loan at West Brom)

What better way to replace Torres then promote from within?  

Lukaku has scored 10 Premier League goals on loan at West Brom this season, three more than Torres has managed in the league. 

Having spent a reported £20m to bring Lukaku to the club from Anderlecht, it would be wise for Chelsea to allow him to grow into the central striker role at Stamford Bridge, as he has proven this season he has the ability to play in England's top tier.

The 66-year-old Italian, now in charge of the Russian national team, following his ill-fated spell in charge of the Three Lions, has struggled to adapt to life in eastern Europe, and is already believed to be considering his future.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich's search for a long-term replacement for Roberto Di Matteo continues, with interim boss Rafa Benitez doing little to encourage the Russian to offer him the Stamford Bridge job permanently.

Meanwhile, Manchester City's attempts to retain the Premier League title are hanging by a thread, with local rivals Manchester United holding a 15-point advantage ahead of the Citizens' clash against Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Add to that, the fact that City crashed out of the Champions League at the group stage for the second consecutive season, and it's easy to see why pressure is increasing on Roberto Mancini.

Both sides are now believed to be monitoring Capello's situation as they consider moves for the ex-AC Milan coach at the end of the season.

"I am available and and would be flattered to be linked with jobs in this league," he told a Cambridge Union session.

"What I miss about football in England is that the stadiums are packed. The future for English football can be positive."

Capello quit his role as England boss in acrimonious circumstances over the Football Association's decision to strip John Terry of the national team captaincy.

However, the Italian was invited back as a guest at the FA's recent 150th anniversary celebrations, suggesting that the relationship between the two parties remains positive.

MANCINI REJECTS 'SACK' SUGGESTIONS

The Italian believes his potential dismissal would make every manager in the Premier League fear for their position

Roberto Mancini has rejected suggestions that Manchester City could dispense with his services, insisting that those talking of such a decision "don't understand football."

The Italian argued that his side can still win silverware this season, noting that "three or four games can change everything" as it seeks to close a 12-point gap on Manchester United in the Premier League.

Speaking to the press ahead of Sunday's FA Cup fifth-round tie with Leeds United, Mancini declared: "We started our project three years ago. In three years we are always on the top, we fight for the title, we won three trophies, we have the chance to win more this year.

"All the people who talk about this don't understand football. If Manchester City should sack me, the other 20 teams in the Premier League should be without a manager.

Asked if he considered the title race over, the Italian said adamantly: "I don't think like this, never. I have another mentality, I always think we can win everything.

"We have 12 games [left in the league]. We need to do our best, not look at the table because it is not important now. We are a good team. We did some mistakes and lost some stupid points.

"We don't deserve to stay 12 points behind but United deserve to stay on top at this moment - but we will see what happens.

"I think that is a difficult moment because we lost seven points in three games but in football sometimes it is strange. When you think it is finished, three or four games can change everything. While we have the points available to win, we should believe in ourselves."

De Gea: am happy at Old Trafford

However, returning to the Spanish capital, the former Atletico Madrid man shined as United left the Bernabeu with a credible 1-1 ahead of the return leg at Old Trafford on March 5. He told reporters after the game: "I am very happy in Manchester. Every day I am happier."
Danny Welbeck's 20th-minute header was cancelled by his Cristiano Ronaldo's header of his own as the two European giants played out a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night.
Madrid registered 29 attempts on goal throughout the game, with De Gea earning praise for a near-impenetrable display - emphasized by his scissor-kick goal-line clearance to deny Fabio Coentrao in the second half.
However the goalkeeper was keen to highlight the performance of his defense, as the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans shone at center back.
He continued: "Stopping to Coentrao? That was just a very quick decision. I was acting on instinct.
"It was a great match. Real Madrid and Manchester United did very well. [Madrid] have a very strong attack, so we needed to be strong in defense.
"Real Madrid will attack at Old Trafford. They know they have to win to advance and we will do our best to stop them."

Kamwaga aliongeza kuwa uongozi wa Simba utakapokuwa nchini Uingereza pamoja na kushuhudia baadhi ya mechi za timu hiyo, pia utapata fursa ya kubadilishana uzoefu wa kiuongozi  na wenyeji wao.

Cristiano Ronaldo admits it would be incredibly difficult to sign for Manchester City given his allegiances to Manchester United but, says the Real Madrid superstar, a transfer Etihad Stadium would not be 'impossible'.
The Portugal captain meets Manchester United on Wednesday evening for the first time since his world record transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer of 2009, and the Champions League encounter is likely to be an emotional experience.
Ronaldo is still fondly regarded by fans and players alike at Manchester United and, at the start of this season, had been linked with a move back to Old Trafford after reports emerged claiming he was unhappy with life at Real Madrid.
The 28-year-old, though, has refuted suggestions that he wants to leave Real Madrid, but adds that is not willing to rule out an eventual return to Manchester United.
"I am a player of Real Madrid and I’m happy here, my family is happy and everything is going well for me here. The future? I don’t know — only God knows the future," Ronaldo told The Sun.
"I can’t say I’m never going back to Man United — but I can say I’m good here and I want to be here. Let’s leave it at that and see what God gives me in the future — but I repeat I am happy here."
But what about eventually leaving Real Madrid for Manchester City? It is something Ronaldo would be loath to do but, admits the Portuguese, nothing in football is beyond the realms of possibility.
"I’m not going to say it is impossible, because in football the impossible doesn’t exist," he added.
"But I can say it would be very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very difficult to play at Man City. VERY difficult because of Manchester United."
