Frank Lampard is reportedly still waiting for
Chelsea to offer him the opportunity to extend his stay at Stamford
Bridge, and the veteran midfielder is giving consideration to a deal
tabled by Manchester United.
The 34-year-old is out of contract with Chelsea at the end of the
season and conflicting reports this week have emerged with regards to
the west London club's desire to retain his services.
It was claimed on Thursday that the Chelsea hierarchy had finally buckled and were ready to offer Lampard a new deal but, reports the Daily Star, the player and his representatives are bemused by such suggestions.
Despite receiving no contact from Chelsea this term over his future
with the Champions League holders, Lampard has been courted by a number
of other clubs as his deal with the Blues edges towards expiration.
The Daily Star reports
that Lampard has been in touch with Manchester United, AC Milan, Paris
Saint-Germain, LA Galaxy and Guangzhou Evergrande, but it is the offer
from the Premier League leaders that intrigues him the most.
Manchester United, the report on Friday claims,
are willing to pay Lampard £65,000-a-week for one-year at Old Trafford,
with the option of extending this be a further 12 months.
News of a potential agreement with Manchester United may prompt Chelsea into a concerted effort to keep Lampard, who is just six goals way from become the record goalscorer in the club's history.
