Manchester United are being linked with a summer transfer move for Real Madrid winger Angel di Maria, a day after Cristiano Ronaldoinsisted he will stay at the Santiago Bernabeu for the remainder of his contract.
A possible return to Old Trafford for Ronaldo at the end of the season has been widely reported, but the Portugal captain is committed to Real Madrid until 2015.
According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Ronaldo's Real Madrid teammate Di Maria is now a target for Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, although he will resist the temptation to make a bid in the January transfer window.
The report claims that Di Maria has fallen out of favour with Jose Mourinho, although Manchester United may have to meet the Argentina international's €150 million release clause if they are to prise him away from Real Madrid.
Di Maria, 24, is reportedly being considered as a potential replacement for Manchester Unitedwinger Luis Nani, whose future at Old Trafford has been the subject of frequent speculation this season.
Sir Alex Ferguson, however, recently outlined his intention to retain the services of Nani, even if the 24-year-old finds himself below the likes of Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young in Manchester United's selection order.
