Brendan Rodgers has praised Steven Gerrard for his 'unique' ability and hopes that he will keep playing for the club beyond his current contract which ends in 2014.
With the 32-year-old Liverpool skipper playing every minute in the Premier League this season, it's clear he's a popular man in Rodgers' line-up.
The Reds boss praised the England international's display at the weekend during Liverpool's 3-2 loss to Oldham Athletic in the FA Cup fourth round.
Rodgers told the club's official website: "When he came on at Oldham, it was like someone had dropped him from heaven into the game."
Although he may be a guardian angel for Liverpool, his future for the club seems to be in the balance.
The former Swansea City boss added: "I don't believe anything has been done [about his contract].
"Steven and I have spoken a number of times. His feeling the last time we spoke was let's get through this season and see how that goes.
"His focus is on really helping the group to go forward."
It's worrying times for Liverpool, as Rodgers believes that they would struggle without their influential skipper.
Rodgers said: "I can't say without Gerrard we'd be alright, because I don't believe we would.
"This is a top, top player who gives so much quality but also enthusiasm."
Gerrard shocked Liverpool fans back in 2005, reportedly telling the club he wanted to leave.
After a failed £32 million bid from Chelsea, Gerrard decided it was best to stay loyal to his club.
With the Financial Fair Play rules just around the corner, there are questions over whether Liverpool will be able to afford Gerrard's £140k a week salary.
