Alaska Becomes the Most Recent State to Legalize Marijuana

Alaska Becomes the Most Recent State to Legalize Marijuana

Alaska has become the third state to legalize the use of marijuana. The official law comes into place on Tuesday after voters passed the Alaska Marijuana Legalization ballot measure in November, and the conclusive wording is this:
The use of marijuana [is] legal for persons 21 years of age or older."
lthough the law has passed, it doesn't mean that there aren't limits. No person can carry more than 1 ounce on them or harvest more than 4 ounces in their home. In a similar manner to the law on alcohol consumption, it cannot be consumed in public places and those under the influence of the drug are not allowed to drive.
Due to the law not being fully implemented, no one is permitted to legally make a living from selling marijuana and the drug is still classified as a Schedule 1 narcotic, which means that using it could land someone knee deep in a federal crime.
Eric Holder, U.S. Attorney General, spoke to CNN and said that the justice department is focused on how the drug is distributed to minors, interstate trafficking and drug violence, and not incarcerating "low level people who are simply there for possessory offenses."
The people in power are starting to divert their attention to the appropriate places, which is the reason legalization is starting to seep through to various states. 2 Chainz recently gave his opinion on the subject of legalization and debated with Nancy Grace, and B Real is currently fixing up his marijuana dispensary in the O.C., but it's Alaska making waves this week.
