Paul Scholes was left red-faced yesterday when thieves stole theManchester United midfielder's car, as he left it defrosting on his driveway with the engine still running, reports the Manchester Evening News.
The 38-year-old, presumably on his way to first-team training had nipped briefly back into his Oldham home at around 7.45am on Monday morning, while the ice melted on the windscreen of his £30,000 Chevrolet.
When Scholes returned, his vehicle had disappeared, and now police are investigating the crime after the incident was reported by theOld Trafford legend.
"Police are investigating after a car was stolen while the owner was defrosting the vehicle,"confirmed a Greater Manchester Police spokesman.
"The grey Chevrolet estate was stolen from the drive of a house in the Greenfield area of Oldham between 7.45am and 8am on Monday. Inquiries to locate the car are ongoing.
"Motorists may be tempted to leave their vehicle with the engine running while they go inside to stay in the warm – however, it only takes a few seconds to steal a car when keys have been left in the ignition."
Chevrolet agreed a deal to become official sponsors of Manchester United back in September, with all first-team players offered a choice of the firm's cars as part of the multi-million pound contract.
Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson actually banned his younger stars from driving the American company's sporty Corvette model, which has a top-speed of 196mph.
Although Scholes wasn't included in the restrictions he instead opted for the less flashy Captiva model, which is more suited to the family man's everyday duties outside of football.
