Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp has revealed he would love to return to the Gunners one day in a coaching capacity.
Known as ‘The Iceman’ in his days playing for Arsenal at their old home of Highbury, Bergkamp was an integral part of all of Arsene Wenger’s title winning sides, including the famous ‘Invincibles’ squad that went an entire league season unbeaten.
Bergkamp’s testimonial in 2006 was the first match played at the brand new Emirates Stadium – he made 423 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 120 goals.
Since his retirement the man signed by former Gunners manager Bruce Rioch from Inter Milan returned to his homeland of Holland.
He has since rejoined his boyhood club Ajax and was appointed assistant manager to his old international teammate Frank de Boer.
In a recent interview with the FA to help commemorate its 150th anniversary, Bergkamp admitted a desire to return to the club where he experienced his some of his greatest achievements as a player in a coaching role, though not for the time being.
“I would (consider it), yes,” he responded in the interview when asked if he would like to return to Emirates Stadium.
“We have started something good now at Ajax and I know a little bit in my role now, what I like and what I don’t like so if I could fulfil a similar role abroad, especially at Arsenal.
“That would be one of the things that I would like to achieve in the future. But not in the near future because we have just started here.”
